Care Home in Maidstone
A home from home
Located in the bustling town of Maidstone in Kent, Lukestone Care Home is a Residential Nursing Home providing 24-hour care for elderly people who have been diagnosed with Dementia and other illnesses.
It’s important for our residents to feel welcome and relaxed whether staying with us for a short time or permanently, so we encourage everyone to personalise their rooms by bringing photos, ornaments, furniture and those extra special knick-knacks to create a familiar environment. Our Housekeeping and Maintenance teams are always on hand to make sure that rooms remain clean and tidy, and no job is too big or too small for adding those special touches.
Brimming with character
Our 1960s styled kitchenette has been wonderfully decorated and furnished to evoke memories and allow our ladies and gentlemen to cook, dine or simply enjoy a chat over coffee and cake.
Outside in the garden you’ll often find us in ‘Paula’s Pantry’; a summer house and tea-room we use throughout the year for all kinds of activities, events and day-to-day get togethers. Elsewhere in the garden our raised flower beds are full of colour and residents enjoy tending to the plants and herbs whilst relaxing in the fresh air or enjoying some al fresco dining.
Recreation and leisure
As well as providing physical care we also support the emotional and social needs of our residents. Even though moving into a care home is a big step, it’s important for everyone to remain as independent as possible and to keep enjoying their hobbies and interests. Our dedicated Recreation and Well-Being team get to know our residents really well – how they like to spend their time, the places they enjoy visiting and the activities they like to join in with.
We make good use of our minibus for day trips around the Kent countryside; historical visits to Leeds Castle, fish and chips at the seaside, tea and cake at Teapot Island or taking in the great outdoors along Moat Park’s dementia-friendly trail. We really are spoilt for choice and always welcome relatives to join us on our outings.
Daily activities such as arts and crafts, cooking, music and movies allow residents to socialise and share hobbies, and there’s nothing we enjoy more than regular visits from singers, entertainers and Pet Therapy animals that are always fussed over.
We never need an excuse to celebrate a special event or occasion and our Home is often transformed with decorations and entertainment throughout the year for Summer Fetes, Easter, Valentine’s Day and Christmas. We also make sure our residents are the centre of attention for birthdays and special anniversaries.
Resident of the day
‘Resident of the Day’ helps each member of the team understand our residents’ likes, dislikes and the things that really make a difference to them. All staff – whether Carers, Nurses, Housekeepers or Maintenance – find out what’s important to each individual and give them the opportunity to pick their favourite meal for Chef to prepare, choose an activity they would like to do, and add any special touches to their room. Family members are invited to be part of these reviews and we always give feedback when their loved one has been Resident of the Day.

A shared Nellsar culture
As part of a group of Care Homes, we are extremely proud of our caring, supportive culture which embodies empathy, equity, professionalism and continuous improvement. Our shared values focus on the individual – from residents to team members – creating an inclusive environment with both residents and staff teams at the heart of what we do every day.

Nutrition and dining
We have a wonderful team of Chefs and Cooks at Lukestone who prepare fresh, homemade meals every day and ensure that our residents’ likes and dislikes go into creating menus that offer variety and choice. We source local, quality ingredients from butchers, greengrocers and fishmongers to make delicious and beautifully presented dishes.
Our Nutrition and Wellness Manager, Leni, also spends time working alongside our Chef and Nutritional Champions to make sure that each person’s dietary needs and preferences are catered for. Mealtimes are relaxed and sociable occasions where we all come together. However, residents can choose if they wish to eat in the dining room, lounge, garden or their own room.
Nellsar Care and Cookery Book
Pioneers in the Care Catering industry, the Nellsar Care and Cookery Book celebrates our person-centred care catering and nutritional support. We also share some of our residents’ favourite seasonal recipes and an insight into the wonderful cooking clubs in our Care Homes.
Person-centred care
Lukestone’s Manager embraces new and exciting initiatives to support day-to-day person-centred care, one of these being the introduction of ‘Namaste’ sessions. Each Wednesday and Friday our summer house is transformed into a calm and tranquil space with relaxing music, decoration and therapeutic activities. Our Carers offer soothing hand massages and use gentle exercises and breathing techniques to help residents relax and enjoy the company of others.
We make sure that every aspect of personal care and well-being is offered to our residents, which includes visits from external professionals such as chiropodists, speech therapists and eye care specialists. Our hair salon/barbershop are wonderful for our ladies and gentlemen to relax and be pampered in. Our barbershop in particular has been wonderfully designed to replicate a traditional men’s grooming shop – complete with hot towels, memorabilia and an authentic visiting barber.
We have strong links with our local community, including St Michael’s Church and local primary schools, who visit us often. We are also lucky to receive wonderful support from relatives and friends who wholeheartedly get involved with events and lend a hand on our garden open days.

Dedicated staff team
Our Home Manager is passionate about creating a family-feel environment, not only for our residents but also for the relatives and friends who spend time with us. She is supported by a passionate team of Nurses, Carers and highly trained staff who strive to give person-centre care each and every day.
Lukestone is also proud to be following the Gold Standards Framework training programme to support its commitment to providing outstanding standards of care.
We’d be delighted to welcome you to visit anytime and we are always on hand to answer questions. Please feel free to contact us on 01622 755821 or email admin.lukestone@nellsar.com
