Remembrance Day at Lukestone Care Home

On Remembrance Day, Friday 11 November, we were greeted by a rifleman in our front porch made by our very own Maintenance Head, Darren in a joint effort with our Activities Team here at Lukestone Care Home.

We decorated our lounge with bunting, balloon poppies and a mannequin wearing a beautiful dress made from a hundred poppies. Linda from our team worked very hard, crocheting red poppies for this dress. Such a beautiful display of amazing talent.

Our banner displaying the phraseLest We Forget‘ was a collaborative creation made by our wonderful residents. They decorated the letters with red tissue strips and the handprint cutouts were modelled after our residents’ hands. They worked patiently on the letters after we explained the meaning behind the activity. They were happy to see their hard work – from tearing the paper strips to gluing them together – resulting in a beautiful banner for Remembrance Day.

Singer Jenny was our feature entertainment for the day. She was so elegant with her performance and enchanted our residents with her clear and soft voice while singing classic 50s and 60s songs.

Gillian was blowing kisses and winking at Jenny mid performance. Jenny absolutely loved the attention from Gill and went to chat with her during song breaks. Betty and Violet were also absolutely loving the performance as they cheered Jenny on, clapping and singing along to every song. However, the life of the party was Marlene going in and out from the dance floor whenever her favourite songs played!
