Celebrating Guy Fawkes at Lukestone Care Home

On Saturday 5 November for our Guy Fawkes celebrations at Lukestone Care Home, we drew fireworks with our residents.

Although Gillian said she’s afraid of handling real fireworks, she loved the colourful fireworks we made with coloured pens. It was so much fun when we said she could draw squiggly lines for her special firework and she completed it with wonderful effort. She was loving the colour scheme as blue and yellow are her favourite colours.

Later, Peter and Ann joined us in our art and crafts. They soon lost sight of making colourful explosive fireworks and instead started scribbling with the sharpies! Meanwhile, Betty got some help from her daughter to make her picture. The joint effort brought out some beautiful spiral fireworks.

After this, we made a bonfire with brightly coloured tissue paper. We asked our group what colours should be used to make fire and they were quick to select the sheets – with yellow, red and orange being their top picks. They began to instruct Reetika from our Activities Team where the shredded tissues needed to be placed; layers of stripped paper were laid on a white sheet to make our bonfire. Very cosy!

In the afternoon we also had fun decorating biscuits with chocolate and strawberry toppings which our ladies and gents really enjoyed – they especially liked squeezing the topping right into their biscuits and having a delicious bite shortly after!
