Lukestone Care Home hosts Hawaiian Summer Fete

Here at Lukestone Care Home we celebrated a grand Hawaiian Summer Fete on Saturday 19 August, welcoming all friends and family of our residents and staff.

The event was held in our garden and Paula’s Pantry, where our Activities Team greeted guests and residents with flower leis, whilst decorating themselves with flowers and hula skirts.

In the garden, we assembled a gazebo and put out a parasol for our guests to sit in the shade as it was a bright and sunny Saturday! In Paula’s Pantry we had our very own ‘Tiki bar’ where mocktails were being served with mini umbrellas, flamingos, pineapple and watermelon on sticks, alongside fresh fruits served by Wiktoria, our Recreation and Well-Being Champion. Many people came for multiple rounds of drinks as they were so fresh and delicious in the summer heat.

Meanwhile, Linda from our Activities Team helped to sell goodies from our art and crafts stalls where she encouraged people to play the guessing games we’d set up, including ‘Guess the number of sweets in the jar‘, ‘Guess the weight of the cake‘ and ‘Guess the name of the monkey‘.

Reetika offered face and body painting from her trolley and Linda encouraged people to play our Tombola and led them to the pantry to play more games. Ewa and Tom, our volunteers, were helping with the tin can alley, wet sponge throw, limbo and coconut shy games. So much fun!

Singer and musician Rob T joined us for the party and played fantastic songs with his guitar, creating a fantastic atmosphere. Mihaela danced with our residents and invited others to join in. In between, families enjoyed snacks of their choice prepared by our Kitchen Team.

We would like to give special thanks to our Head of Maintenance, Darren, who went above and beyond to make sure all the games and decorations for our fete were beautifully made. Darren helped build the tin can alley, wet sponge throw, coconut shy, tiki bar and more, so that we could have everything organised and ready. His support encouraged and motivated our Activities Team to host a truly successful event.

Similarly, we very much appreciated the amazing food and snacks prepared by Assistant Chef Bhim and our Kitchen Team who made delicious burgers and hotdogs for all our residents and guests. We must also applaud the efforts of our volunteers Ewa, Tom and Gabi, who helped us run the event all day.

Everyone’s hard work and dedication created a brilliant Summer Fete celebration – thank you to everyone for making it so special.
