Chinese New Year celebrations at Lukestone Care Home

Here at Lukestone Care Home we welcomed the Chinese New Year with a variety of activities over the weekend.

All our staff dressed in red to honour the traditional colour representing the Republic of China in celebration of the New Year.

On Saturday, our Activity Team members were all dressed for the occasion. Linda with a pretty red top and red wig turned everyone’s attention to learning Chinese on the television. A lady on the screen was demonstrating how to speak short Chinese phrases, which was much enjoyed by our staff and residents attempting to copy her. It created a very jolly environment, with lots of laughter!

We had fun playing a bean bag toss game with our residents in the main lounge. There was a lot of cheering and clapping in the room when the bags landed on their colours. This motivated our ladies and gents ever further and encouraged other residents to join us for the activity.

Later in the afternoon, Mihaela and Linda served a delicious Chinese takeaway – sweet fried pork, fried rice and noodles were on the menu for everyone to enjoy. There were also red and pink cupcakes for dessert.

On Sunday, we brought out our mannequin, who we’d dressed in a beautiful Chinese dress. Many of our residents were admiring her outfit and posing for pictures with the mannequin and our staff. We also had rabbits and a teddy dressed in a traditional red Qipao – everyone loved them and gave them big hugs.

What a wonderful weekend of memorable celebrations.
