We tried aqua painting and tissue paper art with our Lukestone Care Home residents on Friday 2 September.
Dementia-friendly magic painting just needs a brush of water added to the card to make the hidden picture appear. This has become a popular fun activity with our residents.
Some of our residents can tend to avoid painting as it can get messy and the results aren’t always satisfactory. However, these magic mats have brought in a new twist to the perception of painting and those who were not interested previously became fully engaged when we joined them with the aqua paints.
Similarly, we attempted tissue paper art with our ladies and gents. It was messy and sticky but we had fun with the idea of what our joint effort could create!
Firstly, the coloured tissue papers were shredded to be stuck with glue and our residents dipped their hands in the glue and paints! We made a vibrant and colourful piece of art by the end of the activity. Great fun!
Sing along with Archie
On Monday 29 August we welcomed a volunteer performer Archie Holden to our Home, with his playlist of fun songs to sing along to.
There were many classic tunes from the 40s and 50s which he played in our main lounge where many of our residents sat to enjoy the music.
The songs grabbed their attention quickly as they were very familiar with them. This led to singing and dancing amongst our residents and staff.
Archie ended his performance with ‘Que Sera Sera’ which is a firm crowd favourite at Lukestone – it left us all with jolly hearts!
