World Cancer Day and trolley treats at Lukestone Care Home

World Cancer Day

For World Cancer Day on Saturday 4 February at Lukestone Care Home, we made little ribbons which our residents had fun writing short messages on and colouring.

Some coloured them with pink and red hearts, while others made little stars and flowers when we talked to them about our activity. They loved seeing them hung on our special tree for everyone to see.

World Cancer Day is an international day marked in February each year to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment.

We know this is a cause close to a lot of people’s hearts and we were pleased to be able to raise awareness in our Home.

Activities trolley

In the afternoon, we showed off our new red activities trolley – decorated to indulge the senses with snacks for our residents.

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the trolley experience, stocked with a variety of crisps, beer, fizzy drinks and pink iced cupcakes….we needed to return to the kitchen to get more supplies of beer (alcohol free, of course!).

One of our residents in his room, Brian, had fun eating a cupcake and drinking beer while watching the rugby. Heaven!
