We’ve had an eventful couple of weeks here at Lukestone Care Home, as we enjoyed the first Nellsar ‘Through the Decades’ event starting with the 1950s on Friday 11 March.
1950s fun
Staff dressed up in 1950s dresses, and throughout the day, our residents enjoyed 50s themed music, games and treats including a sweet stall! We had a singer Peter Kneebone come to entertain our ladies and gents, who sang songs from the 50s including many Elvis Presley numbers which everybody loved – we have many Elvis fans in the Home! There was lots of signing and dancing throughout the day!
Making soup
On Sunday 13 March, we enjoyed making a carrot and parsnip cream soup, with special help from Ellen and Betty who took on the role of peeling and chopping the veggies; they definitely knew what they were doing! They enjoyed switching up from baking this week and we had a lot of participants, especially for the eating part!
Springtime
As we have had some nice days this month with more sunshine and less rain and wind, we decided to take some of our residents out for some gardening and to get started on reviving the garden as spring is coming! We particularly had lots of assistance from Ann who used to love gardening, so she was a great help.
Arts and crafts
Also with springtime on the horizon, we decided to make some beautiful tissue paper flowers with our residents for our spring display; we even sprayed some of the flowers with perfume so that the lounge would smell beautiful and fresh!
