We celebrated VE Day’s 80th anniversary on Thursday 8 May in our beautiful garden here at Lukestone Care Home. The weather was glorious and everyone was in the sunshine.
We invited Kevin Walsh in to provide entertainment for us; lots of our team members came in themed outfits for the day and Kevin himself was dressed in a lovely suit. Union Jack bunting was all around our garden, plus big ’80th anniversary’ banners.
Our lovely residents and family members wore Union Jack hats and were waving their flags to the music as everyone danced and sang with Kevin.
Everybody observed the two minute silence at midday to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day and some of our residents spent time reminiscing about the war. It was a huge celebration at our Home with wonderful drinks, cupcakes and cakes made by our Chef Bhim in the afternoon.
Our ladies and gents thoroughly enjoyed the whole day and it was so special to be surrounded by loved ones.
