At Lukestone Care Home in Maidstone, Kent, we’re incredibly proud of the person-centred care we provide to all our residents each day. This includes those who join us for a short stay of respite care, where individuals are supported by our dedicated teams while experiencing all the comforts of our Home. From engaging activities and delicious meals to our tranquil gardens and welcoming community, we make sure every resident feels valued and at ease.
Recently, we had the pleasure of welcoming Brenda for a period of respite care. Brenda found great comfort in our calm and homely environment, where each day unfolded at her own pace. She joined our soothing Namaste sessions, enjoyed live entertainment, and often joined in with sing-alongs and morning exercises. What she treasured most, however, were the one-to-one conversations that made her feel truly seen and listened to.
Brenda enjoyed the sanctuary of her own room, spending time with her books and television, and we respected that. At Lukestone, we believe in offering choices – whether in food, activities, or the way care is delivered – so Brenda always felt in control. She appreciated her privacy but never felt alone. With her room right by our activity cupboard, friendly chats with our team members became part of her day, and she especially enjoyed visits from her neighbour, Tania.
Our teams made sure that every detail of Brenda’s stay was tailored to her, from sitting down together to capture her life story, to ensuring her care and medication were managed seamlessly in partnership with her GP. She also adored our ‘Dine With Me’ experience, turning mealtimes into joyful occasions. She never missed an opportunity to thank our kitchen team, often with a smile and the words, “The food is lovely.”
When Brenda left us on Thursday 25 September, she did so with improved health, a happy heart, and a smile on her face. She personally thanked each member of our team, hugged everyone, and spent time saying goodbye to her fellow residents. She told us she’d be back soon for a cup of tea – and we’ll always have one waiting. Though she has returned home, a part of her still lingers here at Lukestone, in the conversations we shared and the warmth she brought into our lives.
At Lukestone Care Home, respite care isn’t just about taking a break – it’s about creating meaningful moments, offering comfort, and ensuring each individual feels respected and embraced. Brenda’s time with us is a wonderful reminder of the difference that compassionate, personalised care can make.
