At Lukestone Care Home we had a weekend commemorating Remembrance.
We decorated our Home with an abundance of poppies and bunting and our Maintenance Lead Darren built a trench where we placed the knitted and crocheted poppies that our Recreational and Well-Being Champions Linda and Vicky had made together with our residents.
On Friday 10 November we started the day by making poppies, and in the afternoon we listened to the wonderful Miss Holliday Swing performing songs from the war time; our residents particularly loved listening to the Vera Lynn classics.
We spent Saturday reflecting on the losses we suffered during the wars. We also enjoyed painting poppies and held a Remembrance quiz.
On Sunday we watched the Remembrance Parade on television and held a two-minute silence, and in the afternoon we enjoyed the amazingly decorated cupcakes made by our Chef Bhim.
It was a weekend of coming together to share themed activities, as well as reflection.
Lest we forget.
