Lukestone Care Home is a Residential Nursing Home providing person-centred, homely care for elderly people who have been diagnosed with Dementia and other illnesses.
Safe sensory space
Our wonderful home-from-home is proud to have officially opened our sensory garden which has been designed to stimulate the sense of the ladies and gentlemen who reside with us, creating a colourful, relaxing and calming outdoor space for them to explore and enjoy.
Being outside and enjoying the fresh air is very important for our well-being. Regular short periods of exposure to the sun has many benefits to our bodies, including generating vitamin D within our system which contributes to strong bones, muscles and overall good health.
Creating the garden
Starting in April this year, our ‘golden hands’ Handyman Darren, transformed our garden into a rich, colourful and engaging sensory space. Darren planted a variety of different flowers, built an attractive cascading fountain, and the vegetable patch he created is very popular among our residents who like to help take care of it.
Grand opening ceremony
On Thursday 25 July we held a grand opening celebration centred around an ‘Aladdin’ theme. We invited the mayor of Maidstone and Nellsar’s Managing Director, Martin Barrett. Martin officially opened the sensory garden by cutting the ribbon, and representatives from our local Church blessed our beautiful garden.
Refreshments and entertainment
We delighted our residents and guests with special dishes and a sumptuous barbecue buffet, prepared by our talented Chef Bhim. Our Lukestone Care Home Choir performed for our visitors, inviting them to sing along and dance.
Our final attraction was the dance from the movie ‘Aladdin’ performed by our Care Team, along with our Home Manager Russell. We think it demonstrates how well all our departments work together, strengthening our team spirit, which helps us ensure our residents lead the best possible, most meaningful life.
