On Sunday 8 January, Linda along with our staff in the main lounge at Lukestone Care Home played with all kinds of dementia friendly fidget toys.
The blue pop tube was a particular crowd favourite! Betty and Violet even played tug of war, but it kept extending instead, which made them laugh! Other residents twisted the pipe into various shapes and it seemed they could not get enough of it!
Meanwhile, Marlene grabbed the purple twister as it had a comforting furry texture; she praised it and twisted it around the entire time.
Our sensory pillowcases were also distributed and explored with our residents. This activity is a wonderful way to calm restless minds as the different interesting textures and designs are a great distraction and something engaging to focus on – the zip, chains, pockets, laces and straps made them curious and great for holding attention.
