Bake for Dementia event at Luketone Care Home

On Friday 29 April at Luketone Care Home, we partnered with the Alzheimer’s Society to hold a fundraising event named ‘Bake for Dementia’.

Families of our residents were invited to join us for the event (at a social distance), which gave a wonderful atmosphere for everyone.

Our ladies and gents enjoyed the company of their families over tea and cakes, which were being served in Paula’s Pantry for a small charity donation.

Our garden was beautifully decorated for the event (although we would have hoped for nicer weather!) and we all enjoyed a live performance from musician Peter Kneebone; some of his reminiscent songs made us tear up with joy, while others made us boogie on the dance floor!

During the afternoon we played ‘Guess the weight of the cake’, ‘Guess the number of cakes in the picture’ and a ‘Star Baker Quiz’, which were all a big hit as our families all got involved and could win sweet prizes, as well as alcoholic drinks.

We raised just under £200 for the Alzheimer’s Society as our families were very enthusiastic to partake and donate to the cause.

This was a very special event to us, not only because of the charity, but also as it was the first time we had this many families join us since the outbreak of Covid in 2020.

Thank you to everyone who came and so kindly donated.
